Fashion Design

The kids did some fashion design with old fabric scraps the other day. It was fun to see how creative they were. Each child definitely has their own style and idea's! Mr. {D} was all about incorporating skulls into his clothing. Miss {M} wanted her to be pretty and frilly. It makes me smile, how she always draws her girls with bog, rosy pink cheeks.

Something quick, easy and fun to try with the kids when they are bored. For smaller kids you can even draw the people yourself and have little ones glue strips of fabric to the paper.

More Journals

The kids were really excited about my foot book journal when it arrived. Both of the older kids asked me to make them a new journal also.

Later that day, I noticed a LARGE amount of cereal being consumed by the kids. I mean A LOT. I finally told the kids to stop and eat some real food. Their response made me smile so big! They were eating up all the cereal, so they could use the boxes to make new journal covers.
{D} & {M} are really into recycling and repurposing items. I was a proud mama when I realized their intent. So, I let them finish up their cereal feast and we got to work.

They are super simple to make, but great fun. We cute out rectangles from the front and back of the box about a 1/2 inch larger than a sheet of paper [folded in half, but you could do a full sheet also]. Each book had 20 pages. We simply stapled the books along the spine, but they could be hole punched and ribbon tied, or sewn just as easily.

{D} had the amazon Lemur and drew pictures of The cat in the Hat and lots of Dr. Seuss references. It was a nice break from bloody vampires [haha]. {M} drew an entire book about a farmer Bill and the animals he cared for.

It was a fun way to pass a rainy afternoon. I love having such creative kids and being able to share their interests with them! Their talents grow each day, and I am amazed at the people they are becoming!

Garden Wish Flags

Lately I have been really inspired by Tibetan Prayer Flags. They seem to wander into my mind at the strangest of times recently. I enjoy reading the Maya Made blog and she made some for her family garden.

We had been talking about a few different things to spruce up the garden, and I knew this would be it. We had to put up a large piece of lattice to block the dog from the garden. We tried several other things last year and with a dog that jumps and Bowie would just charge anything....this was our final solution! It works great, but it's ugly.

I used upcycled sheets cut into squares and had the children decorate them with fabric markers. There is a flag for rain, sun, growing, no bugs and some flower ones. After each square was completed, they were sewn together with a strip of bias tape. Quick, fun and meaningful to both the kids and parents!

I love looking out the window and watching the children's artwork dance in the breeze. Whenever I am in a grumpy mood I stare at them and realize how much I have to be joyful about. I love the creativity and love that is always present in our home.

Little Artists

The kids were busy coloring pictures of mama this morning. I love how I have my glasses on in both pictures and rocking purple hair in both also.

Wanting to make some extra cash, they kids had been working hard on an inventory of pictures to take to Eco Chic. We set up a corner of the table for them to conduct business.

They were so proud of their efforts and sold some work too. Thank you to anyone who may have purchased art from my kids! It TOTALLY made their day!
