Days Passing

Some days, are hard. Like, really, really hard. With a gang of children in the house, things get loud, laundry piles up, toys pile up, and arguments, ehh... erupt {sometimes often}. There is always a dish to wash {usually 20+} or clothes to fold. There is never a moment where we  think: there, now everything is done. There is always something to do. Sometimes I let that "something" take on too much power and it starts to overwhelm me. I get cranky, I cry, I pout, I go on marathon hat knitting sessions to block it out. I think today isn't goings so well, maybe I should go back to bed & try again tomorrow. While the idea is nice, the reality is, that's never an option. It's life- that's what it all comes down too. It isn't always pretty.

It's in those kinda days,  I really have to think about the good times! The times when no one is thinking about homework, speech therapy, laundry, the muddy dog that's waiting to be bathed. The moments where you catch a genuine smile dance across a childs face, hear them giggling together in play, teaching each other, or find a book they have been writing and illustrating that makes you smile. These are the moments that really matter! There are far more good times than bad. There is far more happiness than bickering. There is alotta love in our family. Sometimes I just need to remind myself. A quick reminder that tomorrow will come. Nothing lasts forever, good or bad. Take a deep breathe & smile!

Fall Equinox

Autumn has arrived! My favorite season with all it's wonderful smells of apple pies, spices and crisp, brisk air. The beautifully changing, crunchy fall leaves. I can't wait until our Japanese Maple turns red-it's officially fall in our yard then. I made this quick little table runner for the season. One side is a colorful mix of Autumn leaves for September & November. For the month of October it can be flipped over to the Halloween side. {Ohh, how I also love Halloween too!}

It's finished with a pretty, orange, hand sewn binding to add just the right amount of color to either side. I'm happy with how it turned out. It adds a nice touch of textiles to the table. We have fewer fresh flowers on the table as the cold weather joins us {boo}. I'm hoping this touch of color & texture will brighten my mood just like the flowers do in Spring & Summer.

Happy Halloween!

Thing 1 & Thing 2

Halloween was so fun this year! The older kids were excited all day waiting for trick-r-treat and Littlest Giant was just big enough to go around with his brother and sister. The first few houses, he was confused, but by about the fifth he was tumbling himself out of the wagon and racing to the door with his treat bucket in his hand. It got so heavy by the end of the night he could not list it. Instead of letting us help him, he opted for dragging it along!

Mr {D} and Little Miss {M} were adorable in their Thing 1 and Thing 2 costumes! They have really gotten into Dr. Seuss the last few months and decided upon these costumes in August I believe. They were super easy to make also! I picked up red sweatshirts from the thrift store for $2 and added the circles myself. A quick sew and some textile ink and the shirts were done! We searched and searched for blue wigs this year and found none. Two days before trick-r-treat, Mr. {D} had a great idea to use these hats! Fabulous idea!

Vampires!

Earlier this week, I received another order for one of milk vampire, organic bibs. They are typically made as ordered, so I made up a new batch of them. I love that each and every one is unique and different from the rest. While it's "only" a bib, the concept of being an original is so cool to me! A little piece of something special, for a specual child-cause we all know each & every child is special & amazing.

The original drawing was made after Mr. {D} requested a vampire shirt. He's always saying I make more girl stuff for {m} than clothes for him. The sad thing is, while the bib has been in my shop for months, I am just getting around to making that short for {d}. Yes, crappy mom alert!



I was sitting in the studio working on the bib prints when {D} wandered in and said, "Cool bibs!Uhhhh, Mom.....are you ever going to make that shirt for me?" Feeling extreme guilt, I send him off to his room to search for a blank shirt.

He came back with this striped shirt. I would never have even considered using that one. Mr. {D} said it was the only one he could find and he wanted to use it. I had a few reservations about the stripe, and placement, but wanting to make my son happy I figured who cares. It it turns out silly, so be it. The end result=I LOVE the stripe and the triple vampire print. He Loves it too, so it's a double score!

Ps...Yep, he wanted one mean, angry vampire of the three.
