Days Passing

Some days, are hard. Like, really, really hard. With a gang of children in the house, things get loud, laundry piles up, toys pile up, and arguments, ehh... erupt {sometimes often}. There is always a dish to wash {usually 20+} or clothes to fold. There is never a moment where we  think: there, now everything is done. There is always something to do. Sometimes I let that "something" take on too much power and it starts to overwhelm me. I get cranky, I cry, I pout, I go on marathon hat knitting sessions to block it out. I think today isn't goings so well, maybe I should go back to bed & try again tomorrow. While the idea is nice, the reality is, that's never an option. It's life- that's what it all comes down too. It isn't always pretty.

It's in those kinda days,  I really have to think about the good times! The times when no one is thinking about homework, speech therapy, laundry, the muddy dog that's waiting to be bathed. The moments where you catch a genuine smile dance across a childs face, hear them giggling together in play, teaching each other, or find a book they have been writing and illustrating that makes you smile. These are the moments that really matter! There are far more good times than bad. There is far more happiness than bickering. There is alotta love in our family. Sometimes I just need to remind myself. A quick reminder that tomorrow will come. Nothing lasts forever, good or bad. Take a deep breathe & smile!

Flashback Friday

This flashback is from 2009. My little brother[ he's 10 years younger] came to visit with his girlfriend. They were trying to surprise us, but he couldn't remember which house was mine. They live back home in Cleveland, so they don't get to come over often. He called while on my street asking some weird question about the house. I didn't answer him "correctly" and he finally told me what they were doing. It was a nice surprise and the kids were super excited to see them!

We decided to spend the day at the zoo. Sounds fun, right? For everyone except my little brother that is! I totally forgot that he hates going to the zoo, and always has. It's weird cause he loves animals...just no zoo, something about the walking and sun! It ended up being a really fun day though! My favorite part was the bigger kids and my brother posing in their best gopher faces-with Uncle also holding up Miss {M} so we could actually see her! I LOVE my baby brother-I sure miss him!

Ready for Action

After a fun day at the zoo, Little {L} was anything, but ready for action. He is the funniest child! He will wear anything on his head, but a hat. Everything can become a hat-bowls, old coffee containers, scarves. The possibilities are endless. I actually made him an orange, Yo Gabba Gabba hat and he prefers the Folgers container with a ball cap underneath. Shoes can be worn as accessories for arms and ears! Boots are a must have even in 100 degree heat!

Little {L} often runs & runs so he won't fall asleep. He spent the last part of the day racing against sleep. Once he was contained to the car, it was all over. I love that he fell asleep with his "hat" on still!

Sunshine

We spent the last few days soaking up some sunshine. The weather has been beautiful and we needed a little break to enjoy it while it lasts. The fall months are incredibly busy for us each year with many birthday's, fall harvest, craft shows, making all the inventory to take to those craft shows, and now add homeschooling to the mix. We are gearing up to be extra, extra busy this fall season due to a few extra shows we are planning on applying to. I'm a fan of a simplier, more relaxed schedule, so my nerves start to get frazzled just thinking about it.

Yesterday was an impromptu trip to the Zoo. My baby brother[yeah he's 18, but will always be called this!] & his girlfriend called and said he was headed to our house. He lives 2+ hours away, so trips from family are treasured events! The bigger kids finished up school for the day just as the arrived. We had a great day both relaxing, fun and informational. {D} & {M} drew pictures of 4 animals while we were there and had to learn a new fact about them.

Bats!

The Columbus Zoo has recently added a bunch of cool new exhibits. Our new FAVORITE are these bats. They are so awesome and creepy at the same time!

It's hard to tell from these shots, but they have a wing span of 6 feet!! If one happened to chase me, on a dark night, I would definitely be afraid!!

There is lots of vampire talk in our house, and the bigger kids were super excited to meet these guys. {D} is even convinced that one waved at him.

Goats & Dad

We spent Father's Day at the Zoo. The Columbus Zoo has a really fun petting farm for the kids. It's mostly goats and sheep, but the kids could care less, they are just excited to get to touch something at the zoo!
It was a fun way to get out of the house and spend some quality time with Dad.

This was {L}'s first time inside the petting farm. I am so in LOVE with this shot. It's hilarious!!! His face says everything, " Yeah, I heard them say you were safe........but I'm keeping and eye on you SIR! Don't make any quick moves" .
I was really surprised that he was a little apprehensive about the animals. This from the child who has never been afraid of anything in his life. Normal "scary kid" things make him laugh.

Also they had this ever so lovely log for the goats. {L} squealed in delight and ran over to it as if it were his long lost twin. Yes, he enjoyed the log just as much, if not more than the animals. Sigh, what can I say?
Happy Father's Day to all the great Dad's out there!
