sometimes..

Sometimes I just need quiet. Quiet mind, quiet soul. Moments that pass without thoughts or worries, in a smooth meditative state. In these times, these small moments of need, I usually find my knitting needles to be very busy- the perfect remedy.

Sometimes a steady, one-two, one-two, repeats in my mind. Focusing on the melodic, repetitive movements of my fingers. Sometimes.... just silence. A sweet, peaceful, hard to come by, silence. These days I'm enjoying the calm, seeking a silenced mind. Worries pushed aside, even if just for a few minutes, or even seconds. Peace, escape... serene. This week, I've seen a lot of my needles. Little bits of stolen silence, one string working it's way into bigger and better things, one small stitch at a time.

Woo-hooo

YAY-the holiday is almost here. I'm so happy for a short week and looking forward to the nice break from the daily shuffle back & forth to school and rushing, rushing all about. No travelling for us, no chaotic last minute packing, no sitting patiently to leave the holiday feast to get some vegetarian food we actually eat.
Just 4 glorious days of doing whatever we want... and a yummy vegetarian Thanksgiving meal mixed in there. Hello comfy couch & knitting needles, I've missed you both!

Not so Black & White

When I was younger, everything was so simple. So very, very black and white. Things were either one way, or another-right or wrong. There was no gray, no middle ground. I was so head strong in my idea's, that I believed there was no other way. I often thought kids who misbehaved, were not "taught" to behave by their parents. People who didn't "have" time for themselves, chose not to make it. Most dreaded of all, the long, How..old am I, again?.... uggg, this one annoyed me most of all. I used to think who in the world can't even remember their own age? They just want to look cute, and not seem so old.

Wrong-wrong-wrong!

Over the past several years, I have learned just how wrong I was. I look back at the younger me and can't believe some of the crap that went through my head! Once I stopped worrying about silly, nonsense that didn't affect my daily life, I was so much happier & peaceful.

As for children, yep even the best kids have moments of "terror children" in public. Even my best efforts, can't avoid a meltdown every so often from one of my brood-in public. Time has been a real challenge lately. While I want to do things that I enjoy and like, there really is just not enough time in a day. While I "can" fit them in, it usually means putting something else off till later. [can be done, but at a cost]. The Age issue...well, let's just say that I started having to "think" about my age a few kids, err, years ago. Seriously, those people were not kidding! With so many other things swimming in our heads, those kinda things sometimes get lost!

So, the next time, someone really annoys you, or things seem all wrong. Take a deep breath and relax, it's not all black & white. Once I realized so much was going on in the background, the gray area's, with other people [kids, jobs, chores, list, more lists, family, stress], until you walk in their shoes, you have no idea what's happening-cut them a little slack. Most of all, keep on smiling! Enjoy the rainbow.

sew-sew-sew

We have been working on some fun new gifts. The kids made these for their grandmother. {D} made an embroidered carrot [above] and a little hand sewn pouch to keep necklaces.

{M} was hard at work on a ladybug. Embroidering with the children is really rewarding. It's something that they can work on for an afternoon and finish. They can draw their own patterns to follow or just do something free hand. Whatever they are in the mood for. I help them thread the needle and with little things along the way, if they ask. They are super proud of their work and I am super proud of the! It helps with hand-eye coordination and with sitting still. Sometimes it's hard for little one's to be quite and still for long-in any situation.
I enjoy the peaceful, quite time together. We sit and chat- {m} often sits on my lap while working. The kids have this amazing desire to learn and know everything. They ask the most interesting questions when quietly working.

Finished! It will now to be sewn into a pillow.
