Finally

We finally have a finger painter! As an artist myself [did you guys know I majored in fine art-painting in college?], I think it's really important to give kids a chance to be creative and get dirty doing it, if they want!

I always found it funny that my oldest two kids wouldn't even think of putting paint on their hands! We used to joke that Mr. {D} might actually have a problem with the amount of times he washed his hands in a day, and freaked out if they were dirty. As a baby/toddler he actually preferred me to feed him with a spoon rather than grab at his food..yep, cause his hands got dirty!

Miss {M} was the opposite. She would rub pudding on her face like she was getting a spa treatment, felt pasta & sauce was a great hair condition and her veggies looked nice on the ceiling! I really expected her to be the messy painter, but paint was the one thing she didn't like on her hands, face or head. She would meticulously paint in little strokes with several brushes.

The other day while the kids were painting I realized Little {L} had paint on his hands! He started with a paint brush and about half way through a piece, decided to use his hands. When I said, "let me see your hands", he had the "great now, I'm in trouble look". He's one of those kids that gets into everything and Mama is always following around saying, "Ohhhh, not that L!". It was awesome to see his face light up when I said, "Good Job! Make some more!"

The kids are really interested in learningabout different parts of the world and other cultures right now. So we've been looking at this globe lots!

Ohhh fabric, how I miss you! Between nursing a baby, chasing an extra-energetic toddler and keeping the bigger two kids from dying of sheer boredom, I can't find time to spend with you. I really missing sewing and have all kinds of projects in my head.

Marker & paper: all you need at our house to have a fun, creative day. The older kids spend more time drawing than anything else. Makes for a proud mama!

I need a maid! Perhaps I would have more time to spend with my fabric that way-or exercizing? I have a bit of baby weight I'm dying to lose. Sadly the time for that hasn't been found yet either. Looks like I'll be jogging at midnight.

In the Sea

For school last week, the kids learned about some small sea creatures. We took a field trip to the pet store to look at fish and the HUGE aquarium at the Columbus Zoo, read lots of books and colored, painted, sketched, and glued. The kids made these paper aquariums housing the animals we learned about. It was really fun to study and the kids were able to chose which creatures they wanted to learn more about. The only mama pick was the seahorses. Honestly how can anyone not love them? Mr. {D} chose the Sea Anemone as the first to study.

We made a trip to Ikea the other day, and among other things [many other things], {D} got a new duvet cover for his bed. I had picked it out at our last trip, thinking it would be perfect for him & the boys room. He approved and said he like it because..."it looks like millions of tiny sea anemone".

Feels like Fall!

It's been cold and rainy here all week! While I usually like a less damp Fall, it's been lovely. The tree's are all beautiful shades of red and gold. The kids are getting more and more excited about Halloween. Tomorrow night we break out the decorations. Our littlest guy was ill over the weekend, so we had to put off the decorating until he was started to feel better...and honestly when mama was a bit rested! Sick babies sure make for sleepy mama's!

I'm doing all my last minute preparing for Craftin Outlaws this weekend. If your anywhere close to Columbus, Ohio-come out and visit! The show will be at the Lodge Bar this year. I've got lots of new blankets, scarves and mini-houses to show. It's always a fun day! This weekend marks my wedding anniversary too. Maybe if we are lucky me and my husband can grab some carryout and snuggle up with a movie....wishful thinking, but possible. Ohhh, how things change after you've had kids-lol.

A special thanks to everyone that came out to see us this past weekend at the Westerville Music & Art Festival...especially the hard-core shoppers who braved the thunderstorm Saturday! You guys are crazy, but so awesome!
We had a great time and really enjoyed the sunshine today. We meet some cool people, new interesting artists, met up with old friends. and passed out tons of Etsy Swag bags.

Thank to my Dad who came into to town to help out too. He kept me company while shivering in the corner of the tent during the l-o-n-g days of storms Saturday.

I really liked the show and hope I can be apart of it next year!

What I've been working on

It's been a busy week, here at the Kunklebaby studio! I have lots of yummy new quilts, pins and a huge selection of bibs ready to go for the Westerville Art & Music Festival next weekend. If your local, stop on by and say hello. I'll be at booth #W6.

The show runs from 11-7 Saturday and 11-5 Sunday.

Egyptian Royalty!

{D} is really into zombies, vampires..and Mummies! He's been asking to go to the latest exhibit at the art museum.



We have been so busy that we just didn't have time to fit it in. I was so excited we made it for the last weekend.

At the very end, they have a room filled with clothing, crowns and head pieces that all showcase the clothing of the emperors and queens. The kids were thrilled to dress up. I snapped a few quick photo's in their new roles. {M} said ALL day long, I'm and Egyptian Princess-that's so cool!



It was fun and the pieces they had were really interesting.

Columbus Art's Fest 2009

The annual Arts Fest was this past weekend. It was so much fun! I got to see all kinds of awesome, unique artists, listen to some music and have fun with the kids.

We typically only go once, but this year added another trip. Friday night we checked out all the work and just kinda hung out. Saturday we hit all the kids activities and finally got to see the Egyptian Exhibit at the Columbus Arts Museum.

The kids made tie-dye flags, origami books, badges, bug masks and had their faces painted. {M} went with the Egyptian princess, and {D} picked and arm plate with the eye of Ra. He didn't want to smudge his work with his sunglasses-lol.

{L} was happy as always. He spent the day waving at dogs and other children....and smiling, at everyone!
